Pumpkin 2500G

Pumpkin, known as "Mathanga" in Malayalam, is a versatile vegetable widely used in Kerala cuisine. One popular preparation is "Mathanga Erissery," a traditional dish made with pumpkin, coconut, and a flavorful spice blend.

To make Mathanga Erissery, chunks of pumpkin are cooked until tender. Meanwhile, a paste is made by grinding coconut, cumin seeds, green chilies, and turmeric. This paste is then mixed with the cooked pumpkin. The dish is further flavored with a tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves, and red chilies in coconut oil.

Mathanga Erissery is known for its delightful combination of sweetness from the pumpkin, creaminess from the coconut, and a subtle spiciness from the green chilies. This dish is often served as a side dish for rice during festive occasions and special meals in Kerala. The use of locally available ingredients and the careful balance of flavors make Mathanga Erissery a beloved part of Kerala's culinary heritage.
